Monmouthshire, Wales · Est. 1740
Eleven rooms, one valley, no hurry.
Checking the book…
The house
A farmhouse that has been feeding people since 1740.
We took it on in 2016 with a leaking roof and a kitchen garden that had gone entirely to bramble. The garden came back first, which turned out to determine everything about how we cook.
Two AA rosettes, a dining room of thirty-four covers, and a menu that changes when the garden says so rather than when the season officially turns.

The spa
Four treatments. No music, no upselling.
Two treatment rooms, a wood-fired hot tub facing the top field, and a rule that nobody is asked whether they would like to purchase the oil afterwards.

Eleven, all different
“We came for one night and stayed three. Nobody once asked us whether everything was alright with our meal, because it obviously was.”
